How to use the NEW Reading Progress in Teams!
In september, Teams launched the new Reading Progress “add-on” to assigments.
What can you do with that then?
Students can record reading aloud with their own devices on audio and/or video.
This add-on allows students to read at their own pace, removing any stress or distraction associated with reading out loud.
Teachers can use the auto-detect feature to quickly review pronunciation errors, and can use them to customize instruction for each student.
But let’s go into this Reading Progress “add-on” and let’s see how you can use it.
Fisrt, of course, you need to go into Assigments and there you can find at the Instructions section a new section called, “Reading Progress”
The text itself can be uploaded into a Word or PDF format, you can choose that yourself.
Here you can see the page where you can edit your text, if needed. You can see the student view, you can choose the reading level, genre, number of attempts and pronunciation sensitivity. And choose if you want to require a video.
This is the student view, camera, mic, and start button, pretty simple.
Now when the Reading Progress task is done, you choose how many points you give and deadline, etc. Normal assigment rutine.
Here you can see in the middle, the first Reading Progress assigment is done and we can move into student Teams and see how he/she can do the assignment.
Here is the student view and, as you can see, there is a “1” notification on the Education Team 2021-2022 Team. So let’s click on it.
And we put the assigment into General channel, so first thing the students see is the Assigment “Read the following text and record it.” So let’s click on that.
Here is our sample assigment. and the instructions for it. So let’s go and record the text by clicking the test text.
Of course, give permission to your mic, if you use browser Teams. And, of course, make sure that your Webcam and mic is working fine.
Then the countdown begins 3-2-1… And you can start reading at your own pace. And after your done, just click “I’m done.”
You can try again if the teacher let’s you to do that, but if not, click on the “Use this recording.” You can listen it yourself if you want.
Then you just click on the right upper corner “Turn in” and now we go back to teacher Teams to see what has been turned in at “returned assignments”
Here you can see on the picture in the middle assigment 1/3 has handed in the assigment. So let’s click on that.
And here we choose Ashley Kozak. Afterwards you can give feedback here as well.
Here is the screen where you can see the text and the recording, you can listen it if you want, you can change the sensitivity of the Pronunciation, give feedback and grades. And when you’re done with feedback and points, just click Return.
And finally here is the student screen, where she/he can make attachments if needed, just like with normal assigments, nothing special. But that’s about it. That is how you can use the NEW Reading Progress in Teams.
