Teams basics pt. 4 - Settings

Settings page is where you can adjust your Teams experience better,. Let’s dive into it.

We go from top to bottom with these pictures.
First the Theme. You can select Default (White), Dark or High contrast. There are two layouts to choose from, Grid and List.
Then the Application part. You can choose how Teams starts or closes. Disable GPU Hardware acceleration and even enable logging for meeting diagnostics. The last one is how you want the chat’s to be opened.

When you scroll down to the General page you can change language, turn off animations and even put an “Out of Office” message when you are on holidays, for example.

On the account page you can manage your account.

In privacy page, you can manage who has priority access, edit blocked contacts, read receipts and even choose if you want to participate surveys. And, of course, Data viewer is here. Do you like Giphys ? If you do, do not turn of that “Optional connected experiences”.

Notifications page is an important one. On this page I would state one rule. Adjust these so that you can have as few messages as possible but also enough. That is a good guideline.
On top, there is Missed activity emails where you can choose how many e-mails you will receive about missed actions. Then Appearance and sound. Is it Teams built in or Windows. And the last is how you want to see your messages, etc.

Here is one example on what you can adjust when you click on the Edit buttons.

Here you can adjust your devices, make a test call, adjust noise suppression and secondary ringer. If you want to adjust camera controls automatically, check the box on the bottom.

And when you scroll with your mouse a little, you can adjust your camera.

App permissions are pretty simple,. If you want to use your camera, mic or speakers, you need to give them permission.

If you want to automatically be identified in meeting captions and transcripts leave this option as it is.

On this page you can choose how you open Powerpoint, Excel and Word files. I suggest Teams.

The last part is for the calls. You can forward your calls if needed, you can configure your voicemail and ringtones. If you have a TTY device, you need to turn on TTY mode.

That’s it. The settings page. It is quite simple when you spend some time on it. But that’s it for now, off to the next one o/.
