Teams basics pt. 3 - Managing teams and channels
Pin, hide, manage channel, get email address, add members… On this blog post, we are going to go through all those settings and see what you can do to manage your teams and channels in a proper way in education.
First, how to manage your team.
There are many sections and you can do lots of things here. First, the members section: You can see the team owners, members and guests and you can raise or lower those roles however you want to on the right hand side of this page. You can also mute students or give them tags so you can communicate in a more efficient way in channels. In the upper right corner you can add more students or teachers.
Next on the line is pending requests. As the picture shows, when people ask to join your team, they’ll show up here.
Here you can modify your channels and more on the three dot menu, but we will get to that later in this blogpost.
On the settings page you can do a lot. Let’s go through it all from up to bottom. First is team theme, where you can change your team picture and theme.
Here you can give permissions to create, update, delete and restore channels. And the same for apps and connectors. Also, you can give the option for owners and/or members to delete/edit all messages.
But before you start to edit your “policies” in order, you should talk about it with other teachers, your principal and your it-support persons. That way all your policies are the same for all Teams and it’s easier to manage them.
Guest permissions requires the member channel creation to be enabled. I don’t recommend to enable it , unless you know all your guests.
With the mentions part it’s best to use the default settings.
With team code, you can generate a code for users so that they can join the team with a code. Guests cannot join with this code.
If you want to give weekly updates to parents about your assigment activity, check this box.
In fthe un stuff section, you can give people access to upload memes, gifs and stickers in their chat sessions.
In the tags section you can choose who can manage tags.
I’ll go through this Class Notebook section in another blogpost.
In the analytics page you can see a little summary on what is happening in your team.
Here you can add or remove your team apps.
And last, on the right is the tags section, where you can manage your teams tags.
Next we are going to general channel and it’s three dot menu. There you can find the manage channel option and it looks like this. Not that many options but worth a check.
Other channel settings looks like this. Here you can add channel moderators and give some member rights if you want to lower rights on a specific channels.
Here you can see the differences of the three dot menus on a public and private channel. Nothing special, you can simply just pin, hide and manage the channel, add members, get email address for the channel, edit channel info, delete or leave the channel. Channel notifications section is for another blogpost.
There you have it, how to manage your Teams and channels in Teams for education. See ya on the next one. o/
